Tems Opens Up About Health Struggles Delaying Debut Album

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, recently revealed the challenges she faced due to a “serious illness” that led to the postponement of her debut album’s release.

In a candid interview with the New York Times, Tems disclosed that her highly anticipated debut album, initially slated for release in 2021, was delayed due to health issues. The singer underwent surgery and endured a six-month recovery period, resulting in the postponement of her album’s release.

Instead of her debut album, Tems released her sophomore extended play, ‘If Orange Was a Place,’ during this period. Despite the setback, Tems found inspiration in her journey towards recovery, which influenced her new music.

Reflecting on her experience, Tems emphasized the theme of resilience and perseverance in her upcoming album. She described her music as a testament to embracing life’s challenges and fighting adversity with determination.

“Being a warrior is about not giving up,” Tems expressed. “Even if they cut your leg, you walk on your knees, you fight on your knees using what you have — and that’s good enough.”

Fans eagerly anticipating Tems’ debut album can mark their calendars for June 7, as ‘Born In The Wild’ is set to be released on this date. Additionally, Tems is gearing up for her first headline world tour, scheduled to kick off in June, showcasing her resilience and unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.
