Kate Henshaw Criticizes Reinstatement of Old National Anthem

Lagos, Nigeria – Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has expressed her disapproval of the current administration’s decision to reinstate Nigeria’s old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.” She specifically criticized the timing of this change, questioning its effectiveness in addressing the country’s prevalent hardships.

Henshaw highlighted the severe challenges facing Nigeria, including widespread hardship and poor governance. On her X handle, she sarcastically remarked, “In the midst of excoriating hardship & lack of good governance on every level but not to worry, going back to a colonial anthem will be a soothing balm and inject patriotism back into our veins, a much needed drug.”

In another post, she lamented the state of the nation by stating, “The labour of our heroes past… o ti lo [is gone].”

This reaction follows President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday, which reinstated the old anthem. The decision has sparked mixed reactions among the Nigerian public.
