One Terhide Garfa on Thursday allegedly committed suicide at Kanshio community, a suburb of Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State.

According to an Eyewitness, who simply gave his name as Nick, the deceased corpse was found at about 3:45 pm on Thursday, inside a transformer.

Nick, who is a resident of the area, said it remains a mystery, how late Garfa entered the fenced transformer.

“Someone said he heard him saying that he wanted to speak with his mother or he would kill himself.

“But the person did not know if he was able to speak with his mother or not.

“The next thing is that people saw his lifeless body close to the transformer,” the witness stated.

Reacting to the development, the Corporate Affairs Manager, Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JED, Adakole Elijah described the incident as strange.

Elijah said the transformer where the lifeless body of the man was found is fenced, and could not fathom the reason behind the deceased’s action.

He said, “We found it strange that a transformer that was fully fenced, somebody could enter into the place.

“We don’t really know what happened, whether it was a case of suicide or attempted vandalism.

“The pictorial evidence shows that the man forced himself into the transformer.

“JED has always warned people not to go close to it’s installations.”

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident, said investigation is on going to unravel the circumstances behind the man’s action.
