This initiative aims to enhance the Academy’s presence and services in these rapidly growing music markets.
Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, expressed his enthusiasm for this venture, stating, “This is exciting because music is one of humanity’s greatest natural resources.” Over the past two years, Academy leaders have actively engaged with these regions through listening sessions, briefings, tours, and direct discussions with both governmental bodies and music creators.

The Academy’s collaboration extends to the Ministries of Culture in Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism, the Rwanda Development Board, and South Africa’s Ministry of Sports, Arts, and Culture. Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) have also been signed with Ghana and the Ivory Coast, solidifying their commitment to nurturing the local music scenes.
Through these partnerships, the Recording Academy aims to foster greater opportunities for music creators in the Middle East and Africa, providing them with the support and resources necessary to thrive in the global music industry.
