Chadian President Visits Site of Deadly Ammunition Depot Explosion in N’Djamena

Chadian President Mahamat Deby Itno visited the site of a devastating explosion at a military ammunition depot in the capital, N’Djamena, which killed nine people and injured more than 40 others. The explosions began late Tuesday, causing significant human and material damage.

During his visit, President Mahamat thanked the emergency responders and acknowledged the severity of the incident. “It could have even been worse. We have set up an investigation team,” he said, confirming that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and explosions.

Chad, a nation of nearly 18 million people, has been grappling with political instability, exacerbated by a controversial presidential election that saw Deby Itno’s victory. Mahamat Deby Itno has been leading the country as interim president following the death of his father in 2021, amid a period of military rule.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges facing Chad, as it navigates political turmoil and strives to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. Further updates on the investigation are anticipated as authorities work to uncover the details behind the tragic event.
