PDP Candidate Vows to Reclaim Mandate, Closes Case in Electoral Tribunal

PDP Senatorial Candidate Closes Case at Tribunal, Seeks Mandate Reclaim

Barr Silas Onu, the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ebonyi South bye-election, has concluded his case at the ongoing petition tribunal. Onu’s decision comes after he dragged Professor Anthony Ani, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to court following his declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP chieftain had vowed to reclaim the mandate allegedly given to him by the people of Ebonyi South senatorial zone. In his closing statement, Onu expressed confidence in the quality of his case and the evidence supporting his claim. He also attributed his optimism to the Almighty God, saying that He would not disappoint him.

Onu’s team has presented its evidence, including the much-desired Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) records, which they demonstrated in open court. INEC, on the other hand, has closed its case without calling any witnesses. The 2nd and 3rd respondents are expected to present their cases on Monday, July 15th, and may conclude their submissions on the same day.

Onu and his team are optimistic about their chances of success, saying that they will rekindle hope for the people of Ebonyi South senatorial zone, who have been plagued by despair. The tribunal’s verdict is expected to bring an end to the political saga and pave the way for a new chapter in the region’s political landscape.
