Abia State Agency for Community and Social Development Project to Benefit 23 Communities
In a major development, the Abia State Agency for Community and Social Development Project has announced that 23 communities from 10 local government areas (LGAs) in Abia State will benefit from the project. The project, approved by Governor Alex Otti, aims to provide essential amenities to these communities.
According to the General Manager of the Abia State Agency for Community and Social Development Project, Ekejiuba Ekpo, the projects were selected based on the most important needs in each locality. The construction of these projects is expected to commence within three weeks, starting from the day of disbursement next week.
Governor Alex Otti, who was represented by Rev Fr. Christian Anokwuru, his Special Adviser on Policies and Interventions, expressed his desire to develop every part of the state, particularly the rural communities where basic amenities are lacking. The governor emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and dedication in the execution of the projects.
The Abia State Government will contribute 95% of the funds, while the benefiting communities will contribute 5% counterpart funds. Community development officers from LGAs have been deployed to monitor the projects to ensure that the funds are not embezzled or fraudulently diverted.
The 23 benefiting communities are Amaeke-Alayi, Uhabiri, Ohokobe, Umuode Nsulu, Ndiaku, Ugwunagbo, Ogbuebele, Oria Na Agu, Abala, and Nunya, among others. The projects to be executed include primary health centers, water boreholes, and the reconstruction of school buildings.
The General Manager tasked the members of the Community Project Monitoring Committee (CPMC) to ensure transparency, accountability, and dedication in the execution of the projects. He warned that the funds would be thoroughly audited to ensure that they tallied with the quality of jobs executed.
The Abia State Agency for Community and Social Development Project aims to bring much-needed development to the rural communities of Abia State. With the construction of these projects, the state government is demonstrating its commitment to improving the lives of its citizens.
