Kazakhstan Duo Wins Surprise Bronze Medal in Olympic Shooting Event

Kazakhstan’s Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev Win Surprise Bronze in Mixed Team Air Rifle Event at Paris 2024 Olympics

In a stunning upset, Kazakhstan’s Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev claimed the bronze medal in the mixed team air rifle event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday, defeating Germany’s Maximilian Ulbrich and Anna Janssen 17-5 at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre.

Le and Satpayev, ranked 33rd and 95th in the world respectively, outperformed Janssen, the world number one, and Ulbrich, the world No.19, who were heavily favored to win. The Kazakh duo’s victory marked the first medal won by Kazakhstan at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The 10m air rifle mixed team event is a relatively new addition to the Olympic program, having made its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The event requires teams to work together, with each shooter taking alternate shots to accumulate points.

Le and Satpayev’s bronze medal was a testament to their teamwork and skill, as they navigated the challenging conditions at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre. The victory was a remarkable achievement for the Kazakh athletes, who will look to build on their success in the remaining events at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
