NNPC Addresses Fuel Shortages in Lagos and FCT amid Rising Prices

Fuel Shortages Hit Nigeria: NNPC Confirms Supply Challenges in Lagos and Abuja

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has acknowledged fuel supply and distribution issues in some parts of Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), assuring that it is working to resolve the situation and restore normalcy.

According to a statement released by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, the tightness in fuel supply and distribution is due to a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels. The company is working round the clock with stakeholders to resolve the issue and restore normalcy in its operations.

The fuel supply challenges come amid long queues in some parts of the country, with prices reaching close to N1,000 per litre in some areas of Lagos and Abuja. The current situation is a result of the Federal Government’s decision to stop fuel subsidy last year, which led to a significant increase in prices.

President Bola Tinubu had announced the stoppage of subsidy as part of the government’s plan to save scarce foreign reserves and channel them into infrastructure and other projects. The move has led to a more than threefold increase in fuel prices, causing difficulties for many citizens.

The NNPCL has assured that it is working to address the current fuel supply challenges and restore normalcy in the operations. The company’s efforts will be closely monitored to ensure that the situation is resolved as soon as possible.

With fuel prices reaching record highs, the current situation is causing significant inconvenience to many Nigerians. The NNPCL’s efforts to resolve the issue are crucial in restoring normalcy to the fuel market and alleviating the suffering of citizens.
