Maya Rudolph Returns as Kamala Harris on Saturday Night Live ahead of 2024 Presidential Election

Ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election, Saturday Night Live (SNL) has announced that Maya Rudolph will return as Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, in this season’s premiere. The Emmy-winning actress, who has previously portrayed Harris, is set to reprise the role once again, donning her signature navy blue pantsuit.

According to Deadline, Rudolph has committed to playing Harris in upcoming SNL episodes, coinciding with the conclusion of the 2024 Presidential campaign. The news comes just ahead of the show’s 50th season premiere on September 28.

As a result of her scheduling commitment to SNL, Apple TV+’s Loot has been put on a temporary pause. As both the star and executive producer of the series, Rudolph’s involvement means the production will need to be halted “for scheduling reasons,” per the outlet.

This news marks Rudolph’s fourth nomination for her role as Molly Novak in Loot, including Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She has also been nominated for a second Emmy for her hosting duty on the most recent season of SNL.

Rudolph’s origin as Kamala Harris dates back to a 2019 sketch, where the actor first portrayed the Vice President, introducing the “Funt,” described as the “fun aunt.” Rudolph’s performance earned her a second Emmy Award for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
