Niger Delta Region Maintains Peace Amid Nationwide Protests
The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), led by Chief Edwin Clark, has praised the people of the Niger Delta region for keeping the peace during the recent nationwide protests. In a statement released on Friday, PANDEF’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ken Robinson, commended the region’s leaders, ethnic youth organizations, community-based groups, civil society organizations, activists, ex-agitators, and youths for their calm demeanor.
The statement highlighted the contrast between the Niger Delta region and other parts of the country, where reports of looting, destruction, and loss of lives have been rampant. PANDEF urged protesters in some states of the region to end their demonstrations to prevent criminal elements from hijacking the process and disrupting the relative peace in the region.
The organization emphasized that the point has already been made, and the voice of the people has been heard. PANDEF called on the government at all levels to take immediate and urgent steps to address the difficulties citizens are facing.
The Niger Delta region’s ability to maintain peace during the protests is a testament to the resilience and maturity of its people. As the region continues to navigate the challenges facing the country, it is essential that the government takes heed of PANDEF’s call and addresses the concerns of its citizens.
With the nationwide protests having achieved their objectives, it is crucial that the government prioritizes the welfare and well-being of its citizens. The Niger Delta region’s peaceful conduct during this period serves as a shining example of responsible protest and a reminder of the importance of peaceful resolution of conflicts.
