Benue PDP Suspends Ex-Gov Ortom Over Anti-Party Activities

Benue PDP Sacks Governor Ortom Over Anti-Party Activities

The Benue State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its former Governor, Samuel Ortom, over alleged anti-party activities. The suspension was announced on Monday by the party’s state secretary, Joseph Nyam, and affects Ortom alongside other party officials including Isaacs Mffo, Azua Ashongo, and Bemgba Iortyom.

Ortom has been accused of masterminding the disruption of a ward congress and the snatching of voting materials by party loyalists. The Party Secretary’s statement claimed that “these acts constitute anti-party activities” and announced that Ortom had been suspended for a month, pending a recommendation to the state disciplinary committee.

This suspension comes as Ortom and four other PDP governors from the SouthEast and Southwest regions formed the ‘G5’, a faction which publicly defied the party leadership and endorsed a presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

With this development, Governor Ortom’s future in the Benue State Chapter of the PDP hangs in the balance.
