Niger Delta Region Can Sufficiently Feed Nigeria, Says MD

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Chief Ebitimi Amgbare, has emphasized the importance of collaboration in unlocking the agricultural potential of the Niger Delta region. According to Amgbare, the Niger Delta region has the capacity to sufficiently feed Nigeria through agriculture.

Speaking at the recent Niger Delta International Festival and Expo/Economic Summit in Abuja, Amgbare reaffirmed the region’s ability to feed Nigeria, stating that there is no need for the country to import fish if the region’s abundant potential is properly harnessed. He explained that the NDBDA is committed to boosting food production by harnessing the region’s rich biodiversity and water resources.

"We can supply fish to the entire country," Amgbare said. "As the Managing Director, I can assure you that the Niger Delta can sufficiently feed Nigeria."

Amgbare added that since assuming office as the head of the NDBDA under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the key focus has been on "Collaboration." He commended the organizers of the event for providing a partnership opportunity and thanked the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Abubakar Momoh, for making the programme a reality.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Niger Delta, aimed to explore strategies for positively transforming the economic fortunes of the Niger Delta region. With its rich natural resources, the Niger Delta region has the potential to be a major player in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, and Amgbare’s statement serves as a reminder of the region’s capacity to contribute to the country’s food security.
