Kaduna Kidnapping: Family of Journalist among Latest Victims
A distressing development has emerged from Kaduna State, Nigeria, as unknown gunmen have kidnapped ten members of a family, including the wife and two daughters of a journalist. Muhammed Bashir, a correspondent with the Nigeria Telegraph, has reported that his family members were abducted while on a holiday with his wife’s family in a suburb of Kaduna.
In a statement shared on Friday in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Bashir made a heart-wrenching appeal for prayers, saying: "My dear colleagues, please I need your prayers. My two daughters and their mother, including eight others, were kidnapped yesterday by unknown gunmen in Kaduna where they went for a holiday. Pls pray for me."
The kidnapped family members, including Bashir’s wife and two daughters, had arrived in Kaduna on Thursday, joining Bashir’s wife’s family for a holiday. In a WhatsApp message shared on the Kogi Correspondents’ Chapel platform, Bashir revealed the unfortunate turn of events.
Bashir has confirmed that he has contacted the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to report the kidnapping. He was assured that efforts are underway to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The identity of the kidnappers and their motive behind the heinous act remain unclear, fueling concerns over the escalating violence and insecurity plaguing parts of Nigeria.
