Jordan Chiles’ Olympic Bronze Medal Stripped After Court Ruling

Olympic Bronze Medalist Jordan Chiles Faces Medal Strip Amid Controversy

In a shocking turn of events, Team USA Olympic bronze medalist Jordan Chiles is being asked to surrender her title after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) voided an appeal made by her team regarding her performance. The decision has sparked controversy, with Chiles’ sister Jazmine speaking out against racist comments and accusations.

According to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, they firmly believe that Jordan rightfully earned the bronze medal and that there were critical errors in both the initial scoring by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the subsequent CAS appeal process that need to be addressed.

The CAS appeal came four seconds beyond the one-minute time limit for scoring inquiries, and the court has ruled that Chiles will no longer be awarded the bronze medal. Instead, Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu will take her place as the new bronze medalist, with Chiles being moved to the fifth position.

In a series of Instagram stories, Jazmine Chiles addressed the racist comments she has received, stating that "racism is real, it exists, it is alive and well." She also wrote, "Funny thing is yall think i’m pulling the race card as a reason to WHY she got her medal stripped. NO?? I’m saying that because y’all’s?? mouths?? need SOAP???"

The situation has also highlighted the potential impact on the first all-black Olympic gymnastics podium in history. Per the NY Post, removing Chiles from the podium prevented it from being the first all-black Olympic gymnastics podium in history, with Simone Biles winning silver and Brazilian Rebecca Andrade winning gold.

The controversy surrounding Jordan Chiles’ medal strip has sparked a heated debate, with many questioning the fairness of the decision. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how this will affect Chiles and the world of gymnastics.
