KwaraLEARN Celebrates Two-Year Milestone, Achieves Significant Growth in Education Sector

The Kwara State Government marked the second anniversary of KwaraLEARN, a technology-driven education initiative, with a stakeholders’ retreat. The event saw a significant rise in pupil enrolment, from 120,000 to 180,000 within two years, as well as impressive improvements in literacy and numeracy skills.

Laide Abel, Managing Director of KwaraLEARN, disclosed that the program has improved literacy and numeracy skills of pupils in Kwara basic schools by at least 50 per cent. Abel highlighted the success of the program in reducing the number of schoolchildren who cannot read or solve simple numeracy sums, as well as the drop in absenteeism.

The retreat, which brought together top government officials, aimed to analyze the experiences of different departments and tech-based situation rooms across the state. Officials praised the government for its significant investment in education, which has led to a clear departure from the past.

Malam Baba Salahu, Chairman of the House Committee on Education, commended the government for its efforts, saying that the outcome has shown a clear shift from the “ugly past.” Education Commissioner Sa’adatu Moddibo Kawu described the KwaraLearn initiative as “extremely impactful” and highlighted the program’s impact on learning outcomes and absenteeism in classrooms.

The retreat also saw Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, express satisfaction with the progress made so far, stating that the program has recorded successes in terms of teachers’ attendance, content delivery, and the use of technology in driving the education system.

The success of KwaraLEARN has been attributed to the government’s enabling environment, which has allowed the program to thrive and benefit the people at the grassroots, fulfilling the governor’s campaign promises. The retreat identified areas that need further improvement, paving the way for continued growth and progress in the education sector.
