Yobe Flood Disaster Affects Over 5,000 Households Amid Ongoing Relief Efforts

Flood and Windstorm Devastate Yobe State, Leaving Thousands Affected

In a shocking report, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has disclosed that over 5,000 households across 208 communities in 16 local government areas of the state have been affected by either flood or windstorm.

According to SEMA, the agency posted the alarming figures on its official Facebook page on Wednesday, noting that the numbers are from April 2024 to date. The report includes images of the devastation, showing the extent of the damage caused by the natural disasters.

The flood disaster particularly affected Karasuwa, Yusufari, Machina, and Nguru local government areas, with SEMA conducting a rapid needs assessment on victims in line with emergency best practices. The agency has reaffirmed its readiness to close the gaps and ensure victims are protected and supported within the available resources.

Validation is currently underway, and immediate needs and support will be delivered as directed by His Excellency, Gov Mai Mala Buni. SEMA’s swift response is crucial in providing aid to those affected by the disaster.

As the situation unfolds, it is crucial that the agency and relevant authorities work together to provide relief and support to those affected by the flood and windstorm.
