Bauchi Senator Faults Emirate Council’s Decision to Strip Him of Chieftaincy Title

In a shocking move, the Bauchi Emirate Council has withdrawn the Mujaddadin Bauchi title from Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, citing alleged insulting remarks against the state governor, Bala Mohammed. However, Senator Buba has faulted the decision, expressing shock and disappointment at the council’s hasty conclusion without providing him a fair hearing.

According to sources, the council stripped Buba of his chieftaincy on Thursday, following his criticism of Mohammed’s policies during the kick-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) LG electioneering campaign in the state. Buba had accused the governor of worsening the poverty index in Bauchi and called for accountability in the allocation of resources to states.

In a letter addressed to the Emir of Bauchi, Senator Buba expressed his regret at the council’s decision, stating that he accepted it in good faith and hoped that Bauchi state would be rescued from the unfortunate situation. He also defended himself, refuting Governor Mohammed’s claims of abuse by the Tinubu administration, while accusing the governor of mismanagement and abuse of his position in Bauchi State.

Senator Buba highlighted that Governor Bala had received substantial financial allocations from the Federation Account, questioning the utilization of these funds given the state’s reported economic difficulties. He also advised the Emirate Council to avoid being entangled in political disputes and to continue focusing on its traditional duties.

The senator concluded his letter by praying for the long reign of the Emir of Bauchi in good health and for his effective leadership of the Emirate.
