CurlFest 2024: Celebrating Black Beauty and Culture in Brooklyn

CurlFest Celebrates Black Beauty and Culture in New York City

The annual CurlFest, a celebration of natural beauty and Black culture, returned to its founding borough of Brooklyn on Saturday, August 17. The event brought together women and men from all over to showcase their unique textures and highlight the beauty of their kinky and coily crowns.

Held in honor of Black culture, CurlFest offered a wide range of activities, including performances, panel discussions, vendors, and more. The aim of the event was to uplift and celebrate Black beauty, and it did not disappoint. From a group chat to potluck dinners, CurlFest has come a long way since its inception in 2014, when a group of friends founded The Curly Girl Collective and started curating small events. Today, it is the largest natural beauty festival in America, proudly owned by Black women.

To make the event even more special, local popular Brooklyn eateries such as Brooklyn Tea, Da Spot NYC, and 2 Girls & a Cookshop offered delicious bites and drinks. Guests were also treated to a special performance by the Brooklyn United drumline, adding to the excitement and energy of the day.
