Israel Launches Airstrikes on Lebanon, Flights Delayed at Ben Gurion

Israel and Hezbollah Exchange Fire, Flights Disrupted at Ben Gurion Airport

A wave of airstrikes by Israel across southern Lebanon led to a response from Hezbollah, triggering a day of intense fire and air raid sirens in northern Israel. The exchange of attacks has ended, but the situation remains tense.

According to reports, some flights were cancelled or delayed at Ben Gurion airport on Sunday due to the threat of attack. The airport closed and diverted flights for approximately an hour before slowly resuming operations in the afternoon. Many flights were delayed, and some passengers were left unsure when their flights would depart.

Hezbollah responded to Israel’s airstrikes by launching hundreds of rockets and drones to avenge the killing of one of its top commanders last month. The militant group has been exchanging fire with Israel almost daily, displacing tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border.

The war in Gaza, triggered by Hamas’ October 7 attack into Israel, has been ongoing for 10 months. Egypt is hosting high-level talks on Sunday aimed at brokering a cease-fire, which diplomats hope will reduce regional tensions.

In the meantime, the situation remains fragile, with Sunday’s heavy exchange of fire failing to ignite a long-feared full-scale war. However, the constant clashes have already caused significant displacement and unrest in the region.
