Flood Displaces 3,633 People in Kaduna State, Nigeria
A devastating flood has left no fewer than 3,633 people displaced in the Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that the flood, which occurred on August 25, affected five communities: Fadan Tsoho, Zonzon, Zangon Kataf, Unguwan Wakili, and Zonkwa.
According to Imam Garki, NEMA’s Northwest Zonal Coordinator, the displaced individuals have taken refuge with relatives in neighboring villages. The agency is working with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency to assess the damage and provide assistance to the affected communities.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Garki said that the flooding damaged houses and left many households without their belongings. He emphasized that the agency will do its best to assist the victims, saying, "We have seen the level of damage in the area, we would ensure that NEMA would not leave the victims in their state, we will do our best to assist them."
The assessment team also reported that farm lands and livestock, including sheep and goats, were lost in the flood, with many still missing.
