Breaking News: "The Weekend" Makes International Debut at Tribeca Film Festival

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Daniel Oriahi, has made waves in the international film community with his latest thriller, "The Weekend", which premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival in New York. This marks the first time a Nollywood film has been selected for the prestigious festival.

In an exclusive interview with Nollywire, Oriahi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to showcase his work on a global stage. He emphasized that his past films, such as "Sylvia", offer a glimpse into the types of stories he is passionate about exploring.

When asked about his hopes for the film, Oriahi stated, "I see myself as a filmmaker who always wanted to make films that would travel… I wanted to make films that could travel and still resonate with the Nigerian audience." He hopes that audiences will understand the depth of the film and find themselves uncomfortable while watching it.

"The Weekend" tells the story of Nikiya, an orphaned woman who visits her fiancé’s family only to uncover their sinister secrets. The film features an impressive cast, including Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Bucci Franklin, Meg Otanwa, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Gloria Anozie-Young, and Damilola Ogunsi.

Oriahi revealed that he intends to continue exploring films with similar dynamics, aiming to make engaging and thought-provoking movies that spark discussion.

"The Weekend" is set to hit cinemas in August, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release. With its international debut at Tribeca, it’s clear that Oriahi’s film has already made a significant impact on the global film scene.
