Journalist Facing Charges in Nigeria: Authorities Link Investigative Reporter to Cybercrime

The Nigeria Police has linked prominent investigative journalist, David Hundeyin, to the cybercrime case involving PIDOMNigeria, a popular social media handle accused of leaking classified government documents, fraud, sedition, and tax evasion. The authorities have accused Hundeyin of conspiring to undermine the country’s peace and security.

During a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Police Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced that efforts were underway to trace Hundeyin and Alade. When asked about the efforts to apprehend the accused, Adejobi replied, "I’m sure the Force are working assiduously to see how they can get them. Perhaps they must have sent an invitation letter to them. Or they must have contacted them one way or the other. I don’t know the plan the team has."

In response to the allegations, Hundeyin took to his social media handle to react to the news. He wrote, "Apparently, @DavidHundeyin is now a wanted criminal suspect in Nigeria. What crime did this dangerous criminal commit? Journalism. It was journalism. He did journalism."

The development has sent shockwaves through the journalistic community, with many calling for Hundeyin’s protection and condemning the alleged harassment. As the situation unfolds, the world watches closely, wondering what this could mean for the future of investigative journalism in Nigeria and beyond.
