As Nigeria prepares for its highly anticipated governorship election, a recent development has gained significant attention in the western state of Ondo. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has appointed an astonishing 344 political aides, comprising 28 senior special assistants and 316 special assistants. The sweeping appointments cover 18 local government areas, 33 local council development areas (LCDAs), and 203 political wards in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the appointments were made to enhance governance and service delivery to the people of Ondo State. However, not everyone seems pleased with the move.

Public Affairs Analyst Olujimi Adekanle strongly criticized the governor, saying the appointments are unnecessary and misdirected. In a scathing assessment, he questioned the criteria for selecting the aides, hinting that some individuals have been unfairly overlooked. He warned that many of those appointed may decline their appointments due to financial constraints or other factors.

The announcement of these appointments has ignited heated debate in Ondo State, with many struggling to understand the logic behind the governor’s decision-making. As the November 16 election draws near, the stakes are high for all parties involved. Amidst the controversy, Nigerians will be watching the outcome of this development keenly, hoping for improvements in governance and service delivery.
