Devastating Flooding Leaves Trail of Destruction in Borno State
Heavy flooding has wrought havoc on parts of Borno State, claiming lives, leaving many displaced, and rendering homes uninhabitable. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed profound sadness over the disaster, urging state and federal authorities to take swift action to address the resulting humanitarian crises.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, delivered a somber statement from Abuja, lamenting the damage caused by the unprecedented flooding. Thousands of residents in Maiduguri have been forced to flee their homes, with 80% of animals at the Sanda Kyarimi Park Zoo reported dead. Furthermore, the Nigerian Correctional Service recaptured three inmates following a jailbreak.
Despite being abroad at the time of the disaster, President Bola Tinubu directed Vice-President Senator Kashim Shettima to conduct an on-site assessment. Shettima has subsequently instructed federal emergency services to provide support and evacuate affected residents to safe areas. Morka urged agencies to leave no stone unturned in addressing the resulting humanitarian challenges and prayed for the comfort and restoration of victims.
