MNJTF Troops Rescue Abducted Cameroon Officials, Seize Terrorist Supplies

Rescue Efforts in Lake Chad Region Yield Positive Results

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has made a significant breakthrough in its mission to combat terrorism in the Lake Chad region. Troops of the MNJTF have successfully rescued a senior Cameroonian government official, Gambo Genevieve, and five other abducted persons during a recent operation.

Genevieve, who serves as Head of Service at the Department of Physical Education in Logone and Chari, Cameroon, was freed alongside the others after the MNJTF responded to a distress call from local villagers in the Gogolom area, Division of Mora. According to reports, the MNJTF troops engaged with terrorists in the region, prompting them to flee, abandoning their captives. The rescued victims are currently undergoing medical evaluation to ensure their well-being.

In another operation, MNJTF troops stationed in Sector 3, Mongunu, intercepted a key logistics supplier for the terrorist group, Boko Haram, in Gubio. The supplier, identified as Babagana Zaninu, was apprehended while transporting a Toyota pickup truck loaded with food items, illicit drugs, and other supplies intended for the terrorists. The seized goods included soft drinks, sugar, and flour, which were meant to sustain the group.

During interrogation, Zaninu confessed to having purchased the items from the Gubio market, intending to deliver them to Gazabure Village, a known stronghold of the terrorist group. This capture is a significant blow to Boko Haram’s efforts to sustain its operations.

The successful rescue efforts by the MNJTF highlight the organization’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of civilians in the region. The bravery and dedication of the troops are a testament to the positive impact of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
