Davido explains his interest in Edo governorship election

Nigerian Musician Davido Weighs in on Edo State Governorship Election

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has taken to social media to express his concerns about the ongoing Edo State governorship election. The musician, who is not a native of Edo State, has been vocal about alleged malpractices by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the poll.

Davido’s interest in the election has raised questions, given that he is not from Edo State. However, the singer has explained that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, was an indigene of Edo State. Additionally, he emphasized that as a Nigerian, he has every right to be concerned about the democratic process in any part of the country.

In a post on his social media handle, Davido wrote, “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election… but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha.. @inecnigeria shame on you! I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us.”

This is not the first time Davido has spoken out about electoral malpractices. He previously called out INEC during the Osun State gubernatorial election, which involved his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke. Davido had earlier endorsed the PDP candidate, Asuen Ighodalo, for the Edo gubernatorial election via his Instagram account.

The Edo State governorship election has seen a high turnout of voters, with residents across the state casting their ballots on Saturday. The election is being closely watched, not only by Nigerians but also by international observers, as it is seen as a crucial test of the country’s democratic processes.
