Davido Calls INEC ‘Most Dangerous Institution in Nigeria’

Davido Slams INEC, Calls it "Most Dangerous Institution in Nigeria" Amid Edo State Election

Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken to social media to express his concerns about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria. The singer, known for his energetic performances and chart-topping hits, made a series of posts on his X handle on Saturday, amidst the ongoing gubernatorial election in Edo State.

In his posts, Davido boldly declared that INEC is the "most dangerous institution in Nigeria". He urged Edo residents to be vigilant and follow their votes and the results from the polling units up until the state collation centre. The Afrobeat singer’s concerns centre around INEC’s inability to transmit election results electronically, despite making promises to do so.

"We already know that @inecnigeria will not transmit results electronically, so everyone should be ready to follow the vote/result from the polling unit up until the state collation centre," Davido wrote. He added, "Winning is one thing, but being declared a winner is another thing! From 7pm, make una go Dey mount collation center!! #EdoDecide2024."

Davido’s tweets have sparked widespread attention, with many Nigerians reacting to his comments on social media. While some have praised the singer for speaking out against perceived electoral irregularities, others have questioned his involvement in the electoral process.

The controversy comes as Edo State is set to hold its gubernatorial election, with tensions running high between political parties and their supporters. The election is seen as a crucial test for Nigeria’s electoral system, with many hoping for a free and fair process.

As the election unfolds, Davido’s comments have raised questions about the role of celebrities in Nigerian politics. Will his outspoken criticism of INEC have any impact on the electoral process, or is it simply a momentary distraction from the more pressing issues at hand? Only time will tell.
