New Chairman Elected for Kaduna State PDP

In a hotly contested election, former Commissioner for Water Resources, Edward Masha, was declared the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Masha, who has also served as a special assistant to former ministers, won with 2,123 votes, defeating Danjuma Sarki who garnered 258 votes.

The election, which was held on Sunday at the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex, saw seven key positions contested, while three others were confirmed unopposed. Saidu Adamu, a former commissioner for Information, was elected Secretary without opposition, as was Mrs Godiya Lolo, who became State Women Leader with 2,102 votes. Maria Dogo, a former House of Assembly member, emerged Publicity Secretary, defeating her main opponent Mr Nuhu Dogo-Makama.

Outgoing Chairman Felix Hyat urged party faithful to rally behind the new leadership and work towards consolidating their previous victories, including winning three Senate and 10 House of Representatives seats. Hyat also expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming October 19 Local Government elections, where they aim to score more victories.

Masha, in his acceptance speech, promised an all-inclusive leadership and pledged to reach out to his competitors to foster reconciliation and unification within the party, with the ultimate goal of taking over power in 2027.

As PDP looks to regroup and refocus, observers will be watching closely to see how the new chairman’s leadership style and plans will shape the party’s future in Kaduna State and beyond.
