Federal Character Commission Denies Job Placement to Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara

The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has clarified that it denied a job placement to former Senate President Adolphus Wabara because the request fell outside its mandate. This comes after Wabara alleged that the FCC refused job placements for individuals in his constituency.

According to the commission’s Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Dr. Chuks Okoli, Wabara was informed during a visit to FCC Executive Chairman, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, in March 2023 that the commission is not a recruitment agency. Instead, its role is to monitor recruitment processes in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure fairness and equity.

The FCC also challenged Wabara to prove his claims, urging the public to disregard his allegations of a “bribe for FCC job slot.” The commission stated that the Executive Chairman has maintained a strict adherence to the principles of Federal Character in the recruitment since taking office.

For his part, Wabara alleged that his attempts to secure jobs for people in his wards were thwarted, revealing that he gathered that the resistance was because he did not “drop any money.” However, the FCC is demanding that he provide evidence of the alleged bribery, specifically mentioning the names of individuals who asked him to pay a bribe to secure job slots for his children and grandchildren.

The general public is being asked to disregard Wabara’s unsubstantiated allegations of bribery and to note the commission’s commitment to fair and equitable recruitment practices.

The FCC’s statement appears to be a direct challenge to Wabara’s claims, and it will be interesting to see if he provides the requested evidence to support his allegations.
