Wizkid’s Secret Songwriters: Skales Reveals Collaboration

Skales Reveals He Co-Wrote Hit Songs for Wizkid During EME Days

In a recent interview on “Curiosity Made Me Ask” hosted by Bae U Barbie, popular Nigerian singer, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known as Skales, made a surprising claim. He revealed that during his time at Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), he co-wrote several hit songs for his colleague, Wizkid.

Skales, who was one of the first artists signed to EME by R&B star and music executive, Banky W, in the early 2010s, stated that he wrote some of the songs in Wizkid’s debut album, “Super Star”, including the bonus track “Wiz Party”. However, he also admitted that Wizkid wrote songs for him, including the hit single “Mukulu”.

According to Skales, the collaborative process was a natural part of their time at EME, which he described as a collective. “Back in EME, we were a team so we used to write songs for each other. I wrote songs for Wizkid. He also wrote songs for me, too. He wrote ‘Mukulu’ for me and I wrote his song ‘Wiz Party’. As I said, EME was a collective, so we did teamwork,” Skales explained.

Wizkid and Skales gained fame under EME’s guidance, but they both left the label after a series of disagreements with Banky W. In a previous interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Banky W revealed that Wizkid was owed EME three albums based on his initial contract with the label.
