Man, 50, arrested for defiling 4-year-old girl in Delta State

In the midst of a bustling southern Nigerian town, a stark reminder of the prevalence of child sexual abuse has resurfaced. A 50-year-old man has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl in Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area.

According to sources, the incident unfolded when the minor visited her grandmother’s house on the instructions of her mother on Thursday. The child was said to have been taken to a government hospital for medical examination, where the doctors and nurses confirmed that the child had been penetrated. The suspect was arrested following the child’s identification.

In a statement, a human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, revealed that his organization responded swiftly to the incident, taking the child for medical examination and arresting the suspect. The suspect will be transferred to the state police headquarters after completing his preliminary investigation at the divisional police headquarters.

A viral video shared by the activist features the mother of the minor recounting the ordeal. She recalled allowing her child to visit her grandmother’s house and returned home to find her distressed. The child mentioned to her mother that her ‘bombo’ was aching, which prompted an investigation. The mother took her child to the police station, where a medical test confirmed the child had been defiled.

Local authorities have confirmed the situation, with the police spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, stating that the case is indeed confirmed. While the identity of the accused remains unknown, his fate hangs in the balance, as he faces charges of child sexual abuse.

The incident serves as a solemn reminder of the imperative for communities to prioritize child welfare and protection.
