Governor Urges Nigerians to Stay Hopeful Amid Challenges

Hope and Resilience in the Face of Challenge

As Nigerians celebrate their country’s 64th Independence Anniversary, the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, urged the nation to remain united and hopeful for a new phase of prosperity, peace, and progress. Delivering a heartfelt speech at an interdenominational thanksgiving service in Asaba, the Governor appealed to Nigerians not to be overwhelmed by the economic challenges facing the nation, but to instead draw inspiration from the nation’s resilience.

"We are in difficult times, there is hunger and despair in the land, and people are struggling to make ends meet due to the high cost of living caused by inflation," Governor Oborevwori acknowledged. "However, I want to say that these challenges are not eternal. Every problem has an expiry date, and ours will not be an exception."

The Governor urged the people of Delta State to refuse to give up and to instead demonstrate the resilience needed to overcome the current challenges. "Tough times never last, but tough people do," he emphasized. "We must call upon the qualities we need to stay afloat in a turbulent economy: creativity, innovation, determination, patience, and resilience."

In a poignant statement, the Bishop of Asaba, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev’d Kingsley Obuh, echoed Governor Oborevwori’s sentiments during a sermon titled "In all things, give thanks." The Bishop acknowledged the difficulties facing the nation but urged Nigerians not to be discouraged and instead to give thanks to God "because it is the will of God for all men."

Governor Oborevwori concluded his remarks by emphasizing the importance of prayer and positivity. "We should never stop praying for Nigeria, no matter the situation," he said. "We should use our mouths to pray for peace, unity, and development of our country. Decision determines destiny. Once we make up our minds to speak positively about our country, we will be surprised by the results."

The Governor’s call to unity and resilience serves as a timely reminder of the strength and resilience that defines Nigeria and its people. Despite the challenges faced, there is hope and a possibility for a brighter future if Nigerians continue to remain hopeful, positive, and united.
