Zenith Bank Apologizes for Service Disruption Amid Nigeria’s Independence Celebrations

Nigeria’s top-tier bank, Zenith Bank, has issued an apology to its customers after a service disruption on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. The bank attributed the glitch to routine information and technology maintenance, which was expected to last between 12:01 am and 02:30 pm on Tuesday. However, customers have reported that the issue has persisted beyond the scheduled downtime.

In a statement, the bank acknowledged the inconvenience and assured customers that measures were in place to minimize service interruptions during the maintenance exercise. The statement read: "On Tuesday, October 01, 2024, our Mobile Banking App, USSD Service, Internet Banking, and Corporate Internet Banking platforms will be unavailable between the hours of 12:01 am and 02:30 pm WAT. We solicit your understanding and offer our assurances that measures are in place to minimize any service interruptions during the exercise."

Despite the bank’s efforts to provide a seamless experience, customers have expressed frustration and disappointment. Chima Favour Ejim, a customer, wrote on Tuesday: "It’s still not working till now." Michael Okpara, another customer, described the situation as "frustrating and terrible."

The service disruption comes as Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Day, a national holiday marked by festivities and ceremonies across the country. The incident highlights the importance of reliable banking services, particularly during times of celebration and economic activity.

As the bank works to resolve the issue, customers are advised to exercise patience and understanding. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for continuous investment in technology and infrastructure to ensure seamless banking services.
