Nasarawa State Prepares for Local Government Elections

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has announced plans to hold local government elections across the state’s 13 local government areas on November 2nd, 2024. The elections will cover both chairmanship and councillorship positions.

The last local government elections in Nasarawa took place in October 2021, with elected officials serving a three-year term that is now coming to an end. According to Ayuba Wandai-Usman, the NASIEC Chairman, the commission is committed to collaborating with the media to enhance the democratic process in Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole.

The chairmanship and councillorship elections will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, with nomination papers to be submitted at the commission’s headquarters, Democracy House, Shendam Road, Lafia. The election timeline has been released, with party primaries and the resolution of disputes set to begin on October 11th, 2024.

Campaigns by political parties for the chairmanship and councillorship elections are expected to commence on October 18th, 2024, while the publication of the final list of nominated candidates is scheduled for October 29th, 2024. Wandai-Usman has called on citizens of Nasarawa to support the commission by turning out in large numbers to participate in the elections and conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly before, during, and after the polls.

The commission has emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order throughout the process. With the election timeline in place, Nasarawa residents are set to exercise their democratic rights and shape the future of their local governments.
