Fugees Feud: Pras Michel Sues Lauryn Hill Over Canceled Tour

The Fugees’ Infighting Intensifies as Pras Michel Sues Lauryn Hill Over Canceled Reunion Tour

A highly publicized dispute within the iconic hip-hop group, The Fugees, has taken a new turn as Pras Michel, one of the founding members, has filed a lawsuit against his bandmate, Lauryn Hill. Michel is accusing Hill of mismanaging the group’s finances, attempting to usurp control of its business and trademark, and fraudulently canceling their 2023 reunion tour.

According to the lawsuit, filed in Manhattan’s Southern District, Hill allegedly shut down a $5 million offer for the trio to perform at Coachella this year and was also responsible for Michel’s “chronic tardiness” to performances. Additionally, Michel claims that Hill “financially penalized and defrauded” him by canceling the second half of their reunion tour.

Michel’s lawyer stated that Hill took advantage of Michel’s vulnerable legal situation, manipulating him into an unfair agreement for the 2023 reunion tour. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

Hill responded to the suit by labeling it “baseless” and “full of false claims and unwarranted attacks.” She claimed that Michel was advanced an overpayment for the last tour and has failed to repay substantial loans extended to him as an act of goodwill.

The dispute highlights the intense infighting among the members of The Fugees, a group renowned for their reggae-infused hip-hop sound, which produced hits such as “Killing Me Softly” and “Fu-Gee-La.” Michel’s lawyer confirmed that Michel will not be participating in Hill’s upcoming European tour, which will kick off this fall as part of “Ms. Lauryn Hill & the Fugees.”

The feud has left fans and fellow music enthusiasts eagerly waiting for further developments in the ongoing drama.
