Benue State Governor Announces Work-Free Day Ahead of Local Government Elections

In a move aimed at ensuring a smooth and fair electoral process, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has declared Friday, October 4th a work-free day. The announcement was made through a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, and was disseminated to the News Agency of Nigeria in Makurdi on Thursday.

The work-free day is designed to allow citizens to travel to their respective local government areas to exercise their franchise in the upcoming local government elections, scheduled for October 5th. Alia emphasized the importance of active participation in the electoral process, encouraging all citizens to take advantage of the work-free day to discharge their civic duty.

“I am confident that with the right commitment and participation, these elections will be conducted smoothly and fairly,” the governor said. He also urged public and private sector organizations to support the initiative by granting their employees a similar day off.

In addition, Alia charged citizens to prioritize peaceful conduct and collaboration during the elections, underscoring the need for unity and cooperation among all parties involved. With the work-free day in place, citizens are expected to take advantage of the opportunity to exercise their right to vote and contribute to the democratic process in Benue State.

The governor’s announcement is seen as a significant step towards ensuring a successful and peaceful electoral process in the state.
