Title: “A Tale of Forbidden Love and the Dangers of Societal Pressure: ‘Farmer’s Bride’ Premieres in Lagos”

Director Jack’eneth Opukeme’s film, Farmer’s Bride, has garnered attention for its thought-provoking story and strong messages. Speaking to journalists during a movie press screening in Lagos, Opukeme shed light on the core message of the film and the lessons it seeks to impart. Drawing inspiration from the character of Odewale in Ola Rotimi’s The Gods Are Not to Blame, the director emphasized the complexities of humanity, stating that it is challenging to predict how people will react when placed in difficult situations.

The story of Farmer’s Bride revolves around Odun, a wealthy farmer who, due to his age, struggles to find love and companionship. When he marries a young bride, Funmi, forced into the marriage by her parents, his hopes are briefly fulfilled. However, the lack of genuine love and happiness in their union leads Funmi into an illicit affair with Odun’s nephew, Femi. As their actions unfold, the film navigates themes of love, betrayal, and disappointment, ultimately ending in tragedy.

In an attempt to leave viewers with a lasting impact, Opukeme aims to convey that the characters we create through our actions are often the ones who bring us harm. Speaking at the screening, the director stated, “If we had just left Funmi alone, a lot of things wouldn’t have happened. The monster we created is the one that will hunt us tomorrow.”

Featuring an impressive cast, including Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Femi Branch, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, and Wumi Toriola, the film premieres in cinemas on Friday September 27, 2024, bringing to the big screen a gripping narrative that audiences won’t soon forget.

This cinematic endeavor serves as a reminder that the pressure society exerts on us can lead to devastating consequences when individuals fail to forge authentic connections with one another. By presenting this narrative in an accessible and captivating way, Opukeme encourages viewers to reflect on their own lives and relationships, urging them to learn valuable lessons about the power of genuine human connection.
