Portable Claims BBNaija Lost Its Charm

Nigerian Singer Portable Questions the Entertainment Value of Big Brother Naija Reality Show

Renowned Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, has expressed his doubts about the current entertainment value of the popular Big Brother Naija reality TV show. The singer, popular for his hit song “Zazu,” claimed that the housemates who competed in the latest season, which concluded on Sunday with Kellyrae as the winner, failed to generate much buzz despite significant promotion.

In a series of Instagram stories, Portable, who was not part of the competition, shared his thoughts, stating that Big Brother Naija was no longer as thrilling as it once was. “Big Brother [Naija] no sweet again like before. All these people [housemates] no blow, make then pay me 100m I go use cruise finish them,” he wrote. The singer’s demands went further, as he called on the show’s organizers to pay him N100 million, the same prize awarded to the season winner, Kellyrae, to revitalize the program.

This bold request sparked a conversation about the potential decline in the show’s entertainment value, sparking concern among fans and entertainment enthusiasts in Nigeria. The claim resonates with many, considering the latest season witnessed few dramatic moments and what fans perceived as a less competitive atmosphere compared to past editions.

Portable’s plea also highlights the growing tension in the Nigerian entertainment industry regarding the compensation and reward for artists, with the public eagerly anticipating a resolution.

As Big Brother Naija Season 9 ends, this controversy emphasizes the need for the reality TV show’s producers and talent agencies to reimagine and refine the formula, rekindling excitement and competition among both viewers and contestants. Will this controversy bring about necessary changes, or will fans of the show continue to follow the trend?
