Model Sets New Guinness World Record for Longest Distance Walked

Ololade Ayelabola, a student at the University of Lagos, has made history by completing a Guinness World Record for the longest distance walked by a model. The remarkable feat saw Ayelabola walk an astonishing 130.62km on a catwalk, surpassing the previous record of 114.4 km set in 1983.

Ayelabola’s journey began on October 1 at the indoor sports centre of UNILAG, where she started a 120km attempt. She went on to complete an additional 10km of walking, making a total of 2,058 laps within the sports centre. The model’s incredible achievement is subject to verification and confirmation by the Guinness World Records (GWR).

In an Instagram post on Monday, Ayelabola shared her motivation behind the record-breaking attempt. "I’m not walking for myself alone. I am walking for many models who have been limited by stereotypes and standards set by rigid systems. I am also walking to showcase the creativity of the Nigerian fashion industry," she said.

Ayelabola’s achievement is not only a testament to her physical endurance but also a celebration of the Nigerian fashion industry’s creativity and talent. The record-breaking attempt is set to inspire and empower models and fashion enthusiasts around the world.

The feat follows in the footsteps of Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt, who set the previous record in 1983 by walking 114.4 km in Dublin, Ireland. Ayelabola’s new record is a remarkable achievement that showcases her dedication and passion for the fashion industry.

As the world celebrates Ayelabola’s incredible feat, it’s clear that her record-breaking attempt will have a lasting impact on the fashion industry and beyond.
