Thunderstorms Expected Across Nigeria from Thursday to Saturday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecast a thundery weather condition from Thursday to Saturday across the country, with various regions experiencing thunderstorms at different times. According to the agency’s weather outlook released on Wednesday, the northern region can expect morning thunderstorms on Thursday, with Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states most likely to be affected. Later in the day, other parts of Zamfara, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kebbi states may also experience thunderstorms.

In the North central region, morning thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue states, while later in the day, most parts of the region are anticipated to see thunderstorms. Similarly, in the southern region, morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ebonyi and Enugu states, with most parts of the region also experiencing thunderstorms later in the day.

For Friday, the northern region is expected to experience thunderstorms over parts of Taraba state in the morning, with Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa states also experiencing thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. In the North central region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, and Benue states in the morning, with most parts of the region also experiencing thunderstorms in the evening.

Meanwhile, the international airport in Abuja, the capital city, has expressed concern about the impact of the thunderstorms on flight operations, urging residents to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet and visit its website for more information. Residents are also advised to take necessary precautions and avoid flood-prone areas, as the agency warns of a high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to the heavy downpours.
