Emergency Repairs Underway for Dilapidated East-West Road in Nigeria’s Niger Delta Region
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched an emergency repair program to fix the failed sections of the East-West Road, a strategic route that connects Warri in Delta State and Benin in Edo State. The initiative aims to restore the road’s infrastructure, which had been neglected for far too long, and alleviate the suffering of commuters who have been stuck in gridlock and traffic congestion.
According to NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the emergency repairs will focus on the most dilapidated sections of the road, including Ibadulume, Amukpe round-about, Mosoga, and Ologbo. The commission has mobilized a civil engineering firm to carry out the necessary remedial works, ensuring that the people do not suffer unnecessary hardships while the main contractor continues with the construction work.
President Bola Tinubu’s directive to intervene in the deteriorating road situation has been commended by Ogbuku, who praised the Federal Government’s swift response to media reports and public outcries to re-award the contract for the road project, which had been abandoned for too long. The NDDC boss expressed confidence that the project, supervised by the Federal Ministry of Works, will stand the test of time upon its completion.
To ensure a smooth construction process, Ogboku has urged the various communities and commuters to be patient and cooperate with the contractors, promising that the bad sections will be fixed in a very short time, with the contractor committing to completing the job within two weeks.
