PDP Files Petition to Challenge Edo Governorship Election Results

Eddies Closes: PDP Files Petition at Election Tribunal to Challenge APC’s Victory in Edo Governorship Election

In what promises to be an intense political battle, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a petition at the Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State. The bold move comes despite the party’s inability to inspect the election materials, with the PDP state Chairman, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, assuring Edo people that their mandate will be returned.

“Nigerians will ultimately know the truth,” Aziegbemi said, addressing a news conference in Benin on Monday. “We know many of you, and indeed Edolites, would have been wondering why we have not engaged you after the saddest day in the history of Edo State. The day when your mandate and right to freely choose your leaders for the next four years were stolen from you, following the exemplary performance of our Governor, Godwin Obaseki.”

The PDP chairman expressed heartfelt gratitude to Edo people who came out in large numbers to vote for the party, despite the challenges they faced, including militarization and financial inducement. “Your resolve is a testament to your desire for true democracy in Edo state,” he added. “We want you to know that we will stand with you all the way, ensuring your voice is heard and your vote is respected.”

According to Aziegbemi, the party has begun the journey to reclaim their mandate, and with God’s grace, their mandate will be returned. “Justice is on our side, and we remain resolute in this fight,” he emphasized.

When asked about the claims that the PDP disrupted the inspection of election materials at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Office, Aziegbemi clarified that there was no reason for the party to hinder the process they sought.
