Fatal Tanker Explosion in Jigawa: Over 60 Injured, Many Killed, Mass Burial Scheduled for Wednesday

In a devastating incident, a tanker explosion in Majia Town, Taura local government area of Jigawa, has resulted in multiple fatalities and many injuries. According to Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson in Jigawa, the explosion occurred on Tuesday night around 11:30 pm.

Located near Khadija University, the tanker driver had lost control while traveling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe. The driver’s mistake led to the catastrophic event, which left over 60 people injured and many more killed. Despite police warnings to avoid gathering at the accident scene, many people ignored the advice, resulting in a mass casualty.

The victims are receiving medical attention at the Ringim General Hospital, while a mass burial is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 9 am. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in frequent disasters and highlights the importance of following safety guidelines.

The Police Spokesperson expressed concern over the reckless behavior of some individuals who continue to disregard warnings, stating, "We are worried that in-spite of police warning for people to steer clear from scenes of accidents involving fuel tankers, they still engage in such acts." He emphasized the crucial role of public awareness and cooperation in reducing the impact of such incidents.

As authorities work to unravel the causes of this tragic event, the international community continues to mourn the loss of lives and send its sympathies to the families affected.
