A chilling tale of mass murder has unfolded in South Africa, where 18 people, including 15 women, two men, and a teenage boy, were killed in two separate homes last month. The perpetrator, Siphosoxolo Myekethe, a convicted murderer, is now in custody, having waived his bail request on Tuesday.
The incident allegedly occurred in a village on the rural outskirts of the town of Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape province. The victims, mostly from the same family, were shot with an AK-47 rifle. A two-month-old baby was the only survivor. The motivation behind the killings remains unclear.

According to police statistics, South Africa has recorded over 12,000 homicides in the first six months of this year alone, an average of approximately 70 per day.
