Nollywood Actress Halima Abubakar Takes Legal Action Against Actors Guild President Emeka Rollas
In a shocking turn of events, popular Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has filed a lawsuit against Emeka Rollas, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). Abubakar was recently suspended by the AGN, sparking a heated controversy that has now taken a legal turn.
According to reports, Abubakar was suspended over allegations of slandering the Nigerian film industry, also known as Nollywood. However, the actress has vehemently denied these claims, stating that she was never given the opportunity to respond to the allegations before the announcement of her suspension.
Through her legal representatives, P.D. Pius & Associates, Abubakar has accused Rollas of deliberately tarnishing her reputation. In a strongly-worded letter dated October 20, 2024, the solicitors claimed that Abubakar has been battling health issues for years and that Rollas chose to spread a false narrative about her at a delicate moment during her recovery.
“Our client has been causing her emotional distress and harming her reputation in society,” the letter stated. The solicitors have demanded that Rollas immediately remove the defamatory publication from his Instagram page and issue a public apology. Furthermore, they are seeking N30 billion in damages for reputational harm.
The letter concluded with a clear warning: “Unless these demands are met in 7 days, we are instructed by our client to pursue appropriate legal action.”
The outcome of this lawsuit remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – the drama unfolding between Halima Abubakar and Emeka Rollas is far from over.
