TCN Repairs 330kV Transmission Line After Disrupting Power in Nigerian Regions

Nigeria’s Transmission Company Embarks on Urgent Repairs After Nationwide Power Outage

In a nationwide effort to restore power, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun working on the faulty Ugwuaji – Apir 330kV Double Circuit transmission line, following a power outage that affected several regions across the country.

The fault, which occurred in the Igumale area of Benue State, was discovered at approximately 5 pm local time. Upon further investigation, the TCN revealed that the transmission line had snapped, with a one-span section located in a swampy forest area of Igumale.

With the issue now identified, the TCN is taking swift action to mobilize equipment and materials needed to repair the transmission line. This process is expected to take some time due to the challenging terrain, which necessitates the use of specialized machinery. As a result, a bulldozer and other essential materials will be transported from the Enugu Regional office of TCN to the site, alongside a Hiab vehicle to assist in properly tensioning the transmission line.

The tripping of the transmission line led to widespread power outages in several areas, including the North East, North West, and parts of the North Central regions. Previous attempts to locate the source of the outages had been unsuccessful until the discovery on Wednesday evening.

The TCN is working diligently to resolve the issue, with the agency emphasizing its commitment to promptly addressing the situation. According to a statement from the TCN, “We appreciate the patience of the government and electricity customers in the affected states. Please bear with us as we work to restore power.”

Efforts are currently underway to obtain the necessary materials for the repair work. The TCN is working to resolve the situation as soon as possible and restore electricity to those affected by the power outages.
