ZLP Dominates Abia Local Government Elections, Wins 15 Out of 17 Chairmanship Seats

ZLP wins 15 chairmanship seats, YPP 2 — Daily Nigerian

The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) secured 15 chairmanship seats in the local government elections held in Abia State on Saturday, leaving the Young Progressives Party (YPP) with two wins.

The results, announced by Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) Chairman George Chima at the commission’s headquarters in Umuahia, highlighted a largely successful election process. Mr. Chima emphasized the challenges overcome, including raising awareness for an election involving over a dozen political parties, which he considered a major achievement for the commission.

“Conducting elections with participation from more than 12 political parties is significant progress,” Chima stated, commending the commission’s efforts to run a “free, fair, and credible” election. He expressed pride in completing the election process in just two months—a feat that typically requires up to a year.

The elections were held across all 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Abia, where ZLP emerged victorious in 15 LGAs, including Isiala Ngwa South, Umuahia North, and Aba North. YPP took the remaining two LGAs, Osisioma and Ugwunagbo.

Chima congratulated both the winners and the participants for maintaining peace throughout the process, thanking security agencies and political parties for their cooperation.
