‘God forbid, you’ve ruined your career – Mello tells Brazilian star

Brazilian club Botafogo’s president, Durcesio Mello, has insisted that Neymar was far better than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Comparing Neymar Jr. to Lionel Messi and Ronaldo, the club chief also claimed the Brazil superstar had ruined his career.

No doubt, Neymar has often been regarded as one of the best players of his generation.

However, the Brazilian’s career has been marred by injuries.

Neymar enjoyed stints at Barcelona and PSG before moving to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal for a reported €90 million in 2023.

However, the winger was sidelined due to an ACL injury in October 2023 and remained out of action for a year.

There are multiple reports saying that Al-Hilal was working on prematurely terminating his contract.

He has also been linked to a possible return to the Brazilian Serie A with Santos or joining MLS side Inter Miami.

In an interview with journalist Resenha Alvinegra, Mello was asked if his club would sign Neymar Jr., he said (via GOAL, “God forbid. Neymar is one of the greatest players I’ve ever seen play, he’s at the same level as Messi and much better than Cristiano Ronaldo.

“But he ruined his career, which culminated in this injury that lasted a little over a year, and now he’s injured again.”
