The Ogun State Government has upgraded the Ogun State College of Health Technology in Ilese‑Ijebu to a polytechnic, which will now be known as the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences. Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the change during his re‑election campaign tour of Ijebu North East Local Government, promising to appoint a substantive rector for the institution soon.
Governor Abiodun explained that the upgrade was imperative to reposition the school and expand its curriculum. Speaking with students, he emphasized that he was acting within his legal authority, noting that other governorship candidates were making empty boasts. He assured the students that the administration would continue to support education in the state and that those who had not yet received their bursaries would get them shortly.
In his formal proclamation, the governor said, “I, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, hereby pronounce that this institution, formerly called Ogun State College of Health Technology, is renamed Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences. This institution will now occupy its rightful place among the polytechnics in the country. I congratulate you on this elevation and assure you that a substantive rector will be appointed very soon. I make this pronouncement today, 15 February 2023. I am the only one who can make such an announcement; others can only make empty promises.”
The APC flag bearer also pledged continued welfare support for students, announcing immediate repairs to the institution’s internal roads. He apologized for the poor condition of the roads, noting that work had already begun after re‑awarding the contract to a reputable contractor. “I have instructed the Commissioner for Works to come here within the next week and start work on your internal roads,” he said.
